The Niels Bohr Professorship aims to kindle innovation in psychiatric epidemiology.

The research is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation. and is based at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The research focusses on psychiatric epidemiology - we want to estimate the frequency of mental disorders in the community, and learn more about the nature of mental disorders.

For example we wish to examine comorbidity - how different types of mental disorders combine with other disorders.

We will also explore ways to estimate the burden of mental disorders - including premature mortality, and the burden of mental disorders across the lifespan.

We will also examine how genetic and environmental risk factors combine. We have a particular interest in the role of prenatal vitamin D.

Comorbidity within mental disorders using Danish registers

This website shows the patterns of comorbidity between pairs of 10 broad types of treated mental disorders.
The data can be explored by sex, types of disorder, or time since onset. We show relative risks (Hazard Ratios) and absolute risks.
In addition, you can download the results, and see links to Github for more details of the statistical methods and data visualization tools.
